A Few of My Favorite Films From 2014

There are soooooo many films from 2014 that I desperately want to see, but haven’t had the chance to. Some of those films include Selma, Whiplash, Goodbye to Language, Inherent Vice, and Citizenfour – among countless others. I decided against doing a Top 10 list this year because there is no way that my picks will be representative of the work that premiered in 2014. Instead, I’ll share a list of movies I liked and discuss my #1 film of the year. Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer) Chef (Jon Favreau) Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn) Top Five (Chris Rock) Interstellar (Christopher Nolan) Happy Christmas (Joe Swanberg) The One I Love (Charlie McDowell) Life Itself (Steve James) Nightcrawler (Dan Gilroy) The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson) They Came Together (David Wain) Wild (Jean-Marc Vallée) Now on to my absolute favorite film of the year,  Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. It’s difficult for me to put into words exactly why I love Birdman as much as I do. It’s magical – magnetic – deep – dark – wild – wonderful, and everything in between. I sat in the theater and experienced an entire spectrum of emotions, …

My Favorites Of TV Sketch Comedy

Here are few of my favorite sketch comedy shows and some of the sketches that I adore: Check It Out! With Dr. Steve Brule Starring John C. Reilly as Dr. Steve Brule, Check It Out! With Dr. Steve Brule is a spin-off of  the Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! The show premiered on Adult Swim in 2010 and has since garnered a cult following. The show’s aesthetics are similar to that of a public-access television show, and John C. Reilly is absolutely hilarious as a naive, awkward, and perpetually confused TV host. Key & Peele Key & Peele stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, both of whom are former cast members of MADtv. There are many reasons to love Key and Peele, but what strikes me the most about their show is how creative, witty, and distinct their sense of humor is. Key and Peele premiered on Comedy Central in January 2012. Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (with Zach Galifianakis) To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the Tim & Eric Awesome Show – but I do love every skit Zach Galifianakis is in! Damn is he …

Best of “Between Two Ferns” With Zach Galifianakis

Between Two Ferns has been on my radar for awhile because I love Zach Galifianakis and nearly anything on Funny or Die, but now it’s on the entire country’s radar. After President Barack Obama’s visit to the show, the internet was buzzing not only about the Affordable Care Act, but also about Galifianakis’ hilarious faux access-television web series. While many responded positively to Obama’s surprise interview, there was a lot of backlash from conservative groups and individuals that thought it was undignified. My thought? I appreciate having a president who can relate to American youth and is humble (and funny) enough to do something so out of the ordinary. The purpose of the interview was to reach out to young people and encourage them to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act before the enrollment period ends this month. And Obama was successful; funnyordie.com drove substantial amounts of traffic to heathcare.gov. But enough about politics! I think every episode I’ve ever seen of Between Two Ferns is funny, but here are just a few of …
